Paris 36

Paris 36 is pretty good for a musical, not my genre. Story centres around a variety theatre in the Fauborg area of Paris which is closed down when the owner is forced to sell out to the neighborhood fascist goon and then commits suicide. After several months, the actors, director and staff decide to occupy the theatre and re-open it on their own. The goon thinks he can win over the community if he pretends to be nice, including a sweet innocent young singer from rural France.

Is Anybody There?

Is Anybody There? is a cute if somewhat slow film wherein Michael Caine plays an old man with creeping senility who moves into a small old folks home in mid-80's Britain. The home is an attempt by a couple with a young son to survive financially in their large old house. The kid is bored and belligerent and hates the old folks and is not happy with parents who are more focused on keeping their business going than they are with raising a young son.

Star Trek (2009)

The movie begins with the climatic birth of James T. Kirk  (Chris Pine).  Born on an escape shuttle running from an attack from a Romulan Spaceship that absolutely dwarfs it in ship. A troubled but brilliant youth.  In another part of the galaxy on another planet,Vulcan, Spock (Zachary Quinto) is be teased as an outsider, another brilliant youth but with the "disadvantage" of being half human.  With a will to rebel established, the two are of course destined to meet at Star Fleet.

Ghosts of Girlfriends Past

I hate to admit there are times when the dialog in this movie will make you laugh.  However, saying that, in today's world I find little to admire in the Character of Conner Mead, played by Matthew McConaughey.  Right from the start you will hate him as womanizer that sees every woman as a sex object.  He disguises it in euphemisms of like " I love all women" , the point is he wants all women for sex, then just as quick dumps them, once in a an online conference call with three at once while a another is waiting in his office to be serviced!  This is not a rede

May Movies

It is an early start to the Summer movie season that is going to offer a plethora of different franchises and  sequels including Star Trek and the origins of James T Kirk with all the usual suspects that might bring on a whole new generation of sequels.  Angels And Demons, and Terminator Salvation, Night At The Museum 2: Battle Of The Smithsonian, and Pixar’s Up all just in May! With the depression upon us the box office is ringing like it did in the 30's when people flocked to the movies instead of expense vacations.  Enjoy this month!

X-Men Origins: Wolverine

What makes this installment of X-men are a few key components.  First Hugh Jackman bought the rights to Wolverine to do this movie.  If it was to be done at all with him, he wanted it done right.  Second who doesn't want to see Hugh ?  He is loved by both sexes as a sex symbol.  The fact he is a conservative married family man doesn't seem to mind with the audience.  He can do it all.  Sing, dance, act, and kill on screen.  He is funny when he needs to be, and a serious dramatic actor and action star.  He takes his work very serious and with ense

17 Again

Consistent with a long string of time paradox's and  time warped movies,  Mike O’Donnell is played by Matthew Perry as an adult and Zac Efron plays the teenage Mike O’Donnell.  Mike is of course very upset that his life is in shambles.  His career is on a low, his marriage on the rocks and he has only the hint of any relationship with either of his children.  In despair mike wishes for a do over.  He wants to relive his life and make things better.

Bedtime Stories

Your first clue is it is a Disney movie with Adam Sandler ? You know at best it will just barely fly under the radar for a Disney movie.  Skeeter Bronson's life gets a lot more complected when he takes on the task of caring for and reading Bedtime Stories to his niece and nephew that start coming true.  So it somehow turns into 99 minutes of a Saturday Night Live skits on parade as the plot loosely flow from one dream to another and is held together by the thinnest threads.
