Mi Familia

Mi Familia

by Dr. Lin Zucconi

The Spanish language (mostly) Mi Familia is a three generational history of a Mexican American family in East Los Angeles. FIlm is quite good, very interesting from a cultural and sociological as well as historical point of view. (Whew!) It runs from the 1920's when the family patriarch first arrives from Mexico and marries a Mexican American (US citizen) housekeeper. They raise a large family.

The film covers the family through three generations into the 1980's. This is a warm family story with much tragedy, notable discrimination, considerable perseverance and "family values." Overall an up lifting account of immigrant family experiences. Film is narrated by the oldest son who has become a writer. My Family is over 2 hours long but not overly long and is subtitled when actors aren't speaking English.

Also, those of you who are fans of the Sci-Fi channel will recognize some of your favorite lead actors from Star Trek:Enterprise and Battlestar Galactica. Acting is quite good. Very worth renting (available on both net Flix and Blockbuster online.)

Cheers,

Lin
