Beverly Hills Chihuahua
Only Disney could have elevated a story of a pampered Chihuahua from Beverly Hills to a story akin to the Prince and Pauper. Oh wait Disney did that one too! In this semi animated (Live animals with animated mouthing of words and a few animated stand in special effects) story of a pampered princess in Beverly Hills, Chloe, voiced by Drew Barrymore. Chole is kidnapped in Mexico by a person that uses them in dogfights. She is to be a fast death for a killer Doberman named El Diablo but to her rescue comes Delgado.
The movie focuses on the quest to find Chole from both her "babysitter that lost her, and "Papi" (Voiced by George Lopez) the gardeners Chihuahua that is in love with Chole. Piper Perabo plays Rachel, the Niece of Aunt Viv (Jamie Lee Curtis). Voices that you'll recognize quickly are Cheech Marin as Manual the rat, Edward James Olmos as El Diablo, Andy Garcia as Delgado (great part, a German Shepard that has lost his sense of smell). Others include Paul Rodriquez and even Palcido Domingo.
Underneath all the fun and comedy is a story of dog napping and torture, illegal dogfights, growing up and becoming responsible, love and respect. Presented in comedy and fun, to appeal to all ages, it of course has a happy ending and is not destined to be a "great" Disney movie, but was a diversion at best. A lot of the comedy is one-liners that are more time fillers.
I normally expect better from Disney so I have to admit I was disappointed it didn't have a better plot than a chase scene through Mexico.
